CTE Success Story: Salem County Vocational School District CADD Graduate Applies Technical Training To Construction Management

February 26, 2026

CTE Success Story: Robert Timberman, Graduate from Salem County Vocational School District.

Robert Timberman, a Woodstown native, began his path into the construction industry while enrolled in the Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) program at Salem County Vocational School District (SCVTS). A 2006 graduate, Timberman says the technical foundation he built in high school continues to shape his career in the construction trades.

“Salem County Vo-Tech School led me to the field I work in today,” said Timberman. “The CADD program taught me AutoCAD, which led me to general contracting. SCVTS taught me a work ethic and gave me a desire to create and lead large projects.”

After graduating, Timberman worked in various skilled trades, including as an aircraft machinist. In 2017, following a company restructuring, he made the decision to return full time to the construction industry. Drawing on years of experience working alongside his father and subcontractors across multiple specialties, Timberman helped merge Black Diamond Construction with his father’s operations to form Black Diamond General Contractors.

Today, he serves as General Superintendent and Machine Control GPS Manager, overseeing demolition, excavation and site development projects, along with advanced GPS-enabled equipment operations.

He credits his early drafting education with helping him understand site design and integrate machine control technology into modern construction practices.

One of his most significant professional milestones was designing and constructing a facility for Holy City Linen, a major commercial laundry provider in South Carolina capable of processing approximately 30 million pounds of laundry annually. The project stands as one of the largest of its kind in the state and reflects the scale of work his team now manages.

Timberman has continued challenging himself to learn and grow in the field after gaining a strong foundation at SCVTS. He holds multiple industry credentials and licenses, including SCDES Tier II On-Site Wastewater certification, Master Plumber licensure, a Paving and Grading license, Leica Geosystems training, and a Journeyman CAD Draftsman certificate from SCVTS. He is currently working toward earning his Master Electrician license.
