If a vacation is in your future, you may choose your lodging largely because Hunterdon County Polytech alumnus Garret Delbeni made it stand out. A 2019 graduate of Polytech’s Graphic Design program, Delbeni has quickly proven himself both professionally and creatively, most recently securing a promotion to become a corporate graphic designer at Peregrine Hospitality Group.
Delbeni now designs and manages projects for the marketing agency within the corporation, which is responsible for assisting more than 90 properties across the country. Formerly KSL Resorts, Peregrine Hospitality Group recently rebranded to reflect a new era with many recently acquired resorts.
Delbeni got his start working at one of the original resorts in the company’s portfolio, Camelback. After graduating high school, he initially worked as a rental technician, preparing skis for resort guests. The following year, he had the opportunity to showcase his design skills as a member of the marketing team. He began to influence the creative direction of the resort by designing a range of advertisements and even signage.
“I was extremely prepared for this role through my work within Polytech,” said Delbeni. “As a graphic designer, knowing all the Adobe Programs and specifically mastering shortcuts helped me get my job done quickly and efficiently.”
The portfolio Delbeni began at Polytech, through both coursework and the school’s design studio – Studio111, helped him showcase the vast technical skills he acquired. Its contents – physical product creation, posters, social media advertisements, full branding campaigns, logos, and company start-up materials – impressed his colleagues.
Once Delbeni secured a position with Camelback in his field, he continued to let his work speak for itself. Following the transition of KSL Resorts to Peregrine Hospitality Group, he and his design partner were sought out to help launch the corporation’s new marketing agency.
Among the properties he looks forward to promoting are boutique hotels in addition to Sheraton San Diego and Silverado Resort. He also will remain supportive of Camelback and nearby Blue Mountain Resort.
Delbeni said attending Polytech is a game-changer for any future graphic designer. He said his ability to move into project management without a formal college education is further proof of the program’s strength.
“The vocational school prepares you for the real world and gives you a look at how the industry works and how working for a studio would be,” he said. “Additionally, Polytech helps build your portfolio, so you are ready for those jobs. I would not be where I am without Polytech, and it was one of the best decisions I made for my career to attend the school!”
