Software Engineer Billy Torres, of Garfield, delights in building applications that bring value and joy to millions of people worldwide.
He has worked for several companies, including Google, Airbnb and TikTok, and is now embracing his latest challenge at Citadel. There, he is a front-end engineer developing research tools at the intersection of math, technology and finance.
His passion for software took shape when he studied in the Computer Science program at Bergen County Technical Schools (BCTS). He credits the education and support provided by the school with setting the stage for his career.
“I have a lot of gratitude for the dedicated teachers at Bergen Tech,” said Torres. “They fostered an encouraging environment to learn and grow in.”
After graduating from the Computer Science program at BCTS in 2015, Torres continued his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in computer science and engineering.
“The early exposure to my major, as well as all the physics and calculus classes, facilitated my transition into the rigorous curriculum at MIT,” said Torres. “Those classes also equipped me with analytical skills that are foundational to the engineering work I do today.”
