Shore Medical Center’s Alan Beatty named Atlantic County Institute of Technology’s 2023 Business Partner of the Year

December 15, 2023

ACIT 2023 BPOY is Shore Medical Center

Alan Beatty, vice president of human resources at Shore Medical Center, has worked closely with the Atlantic County Institute of Technology (ACIT) Health Sciences program for more than 20 years, making a positive impact on hundreds of students. He dedicates time to developing relationships with the program’s staff to help them strengthen students’ workforce skills. He also assists students in discovering meaningful ways to apply these skills. His efforts to honor the ACIT mission, “Pursue What You Love,” is why the school has named him the 2023 Business Partner of the Year.

“Alan Beatty’s commitment to helping young people pursue careers in healthcare has provided extraordinary opportunities for our students at ACIT,” said Philip Guenther, superintendent of ACIT. “As an industry partner and Advisory Board member, he has facilitated the success of our Health Sciences program and positively impacted the future of healthcare in Atlantic County.”

Beatty is a founding consultant for ACIT, and his involvement over the years has impacted adult, shared-time and comprehensive career programming. As an Advisory Board member since 2003, he has assisted in expanding Information Technology, Hospitality and Health Sciences education for adult, high school and special services students. He has hosted and continues to provide exploratory options for high school and special services students through the Shore Medical Explorers Club and has served as guest speaker at many ACIT events. Furthermore, he helped establish a nursing assistant training program, complete with a year of pharmacy technician training, and employment opportunities for graduating Health Sciences students and adult Medical Assisting students. He also established Shore Medical as an affiliation site for the LPN program, which was previously run by ACIT’s adult program and now by the county college.

A 33-year employee of Shore Medical, Beatty has involved colleagues over the years to expand outreach to both educators and students. He and his expansive network at Shore Medical model innovative practices and discuss industry standards with ACIT instructors to ensure teaching practices are current and effective and lead to students graduating with important industry credentials. They also work diligently to place students for job shadowing, internships and work-based learning experiences and then lead by example in the workplace.

Such involvement helps ACIT students plan for entry into positions that have the potential to evolve into long, successful careers. Many ACIT alumni who now work at Shore Medical play a role in ensuring the partnership established by Beatty between ACIT and the healthcare system continues to grow.

Beatty’s commitment to workforce development is not only evident in his work directly with ACIT but throughout the county. He has served on both the Atlantic County Workforce Development Board Health Care Committee and the county’s Youth Investment Board. In these roles, he further consults on curriculum, professional development of educators and work-based learning opportunities for students in health-related programs.
