Monmouth County Vocational School District's 2024 Business Partner of the Year is Swagger and Blade Swagger & Blade, with locations in Ocean Township and Asbury Park, has developed an impactful relationship with Monmouth County Vocational School District’s (MCVSD) Adult Education Cosmetology Program over the past five years. Shane Bruno, owner of the barbershop, offers his expertise and opens his shops to help individuals either start or grow their careers. MCVSD recognizes Bruno’s work and dedication to cosmetology students’ success and has named Swagger & Blade the 2024 Business Partner of the Year.

Bruno has a personal mission to aid individuals who are in recovery, providing them with the tools and resources they need to complete their coursework at MCVSD and stay on track to become successful barbers. Working with prison reform programs, he provides second chance opportunities, hiring individuals as apprentices and referring them to MCVSD for additional learning and training.

Bruno supports his barbers as they participate in the 10-month long adult education course. He advocates for MCVSD’s program as a way for individuals to grow skills and set themselves apart from others in the field. He even visits MCVSD and participates in lessons and demonstrations to benefit all enrolled students.

“I have been working with Shane for about six years now and the relationship has grown to be very productive, professional, as well as rewarding,” said MCVSD Adult Cosmetology Instructor Kathy Johnson. “He comes to our school and performs demonstrations for our students with modern barber styles as well as shares business knowledge. Shane also helps and supports men and women in recovery by employing them in one of his barbershops. He guides them through the cosmetology course, not only professionally, but spiritually, and leads them into a permanent position at Swagger & Blade – either as an employee or obtaining ownership in his company. It has been a great honor working with someone who cares so much about other people with recovery challenges, offering them a chance to better themselves in their lives and their careers.”
