Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School names American Tire and Auto Care the 2022 Business Partner of the Year

January 18, 2023

Somerset BPOYSomerset County Vocational and Technical High School has named Mike DeStefano and American Tire and Auto Care, located in Greenbrook Township, as its 2022 Business Partner of the Year.

DeStefano was selected for his long-standing involvement, commitment, and contributions to the high school’s Automotive-Diesel Technology program. For 10 years, he has played an active role as a member of the Advisory Committee, provided work-based learning experiences to students, and volunteered to be the guest speaker at the prospective student Open House. He has helped students and their families understand the value employers place on the highly focused and relevant training provided in the high school program. Furthermore, Destefano and American Tire and Auto Care have been generous sponsors of the year-end student Automotive Achievement awards.

“Mike has committed his entire career to the automotive industry,” said Automotive Technology Instructor Mr. David Scaler. “He is truly an example of how hard work and dedication can take you to the highest levels. As a mechanic, his technical skills are second to none, and now as an operations manager for an eight-location auto repair company, his love for his chosen career is an inspiration to all the auto technicians he meets, from the entry-level new hire to the seasoned pro.”

Approximately 40 students in the Automotive-Diesel Technology programs have benefitted from DeStefano’s time and efforts each year! Students regularly work on site as paid auto mechanics, and DeStefano hires a few graduates each year as full-time employees.

“It has been a real honor to work with the students from Somerset County all these years,” said DeStefano. “In addition to enjoying training someone with a youthful and positive attitude, we consider these students to be part of our future. We train them, and they sustain our business.”
