Cape May County Technical School names 2024 Business Partner of the Year: Coastal Broadcasting Systems Inc.Coastal Broadcasting Systems, Inc. offers Cape May County Technical School District (Cape Tech) students paid positions in support of work-based learning and professionals share advice both in-station and on Cape Tech’s campus as advisory board members. The ongoing access and mentorship earned Coastal Broadcasting Systems recognition as Cape Tech’s 2024 Business Partner of the Year.

Cape Tech students benefit from the invaluable opportunity to learn on the job alongside professionals working in various facets of media at their popular radio station, 98.7 The Coast WCZT-FM. By working in the field, students learn to keep pace with the fast-moving communications industry and understand how broad communications skillsets are required to succeed in today’s media landscape. With the competition for an audience taking place across multiple platforms, students benefit from each and every opportunity to perfect skills, find their voice and get a step ahead in their career journeys.

The partnership between Coastal Broadcasting Systems and Cape Tech dates back to at least 1995, when Cape Tech became a full-time high school. Once Cape Tech developed an athletics department, the station welcomed the Hawks into the grouping of county high schools whose games were featured on The Coast’s local sports radio broadcasts.

The Coast, based in Rio Grande, has further shone a spotlight on Cape Tech through a Back-to-School Tour broadcast. Unique school features, such as the range of Career and Technical Education programs offered and SkillsUSA accomplishments have made it on air.

The media organization’s ties to Cape Tech have only grown deeper over the years. Coastal Broadcasting Systems General Manager Kim Maschio and on-air talent Mark Hunter have become significant contributors to the Communications Arts Technology advisory board. They have shared insight on various aspects of the field such as equipment, evolving skills and industry trends. Their involvement on the board and advocacy of in-station learning opportunities have created a very active bridge between the classroom and the real world.

“When we look for a business partner of the year, we don’t just look for a business that is successful. We look for a business that gives back, a business that cares about the future of this industry and is a pioneer in the field,” said Cape Tech Superintendent Jamie Moscony. “The team at 98.7 The Coast Radio has proven their dedication by participating in advisory boards, providing internships that offer real-world experiences and has even assisted in a variety of Cape Tech productions. We’re grateful for their guidance and support. And we’re excited to continue working together to enhance student opportunities.”
