Aiyden Hanlein enjoys his career but says there are extra special perks to working as an automotive technician for a luxury brand like Aston Martin. He is present at launches for new vehicles that are not even on the market yet, and he learns modern technology and witnesses how it is shaping the automotive industry and driving experience.
Hanlein appreciates the opportunity to continue learning to keep up with changes both within the industry and specific to his employer. He spent two weeks in California to fully understand Aston Martin vehicles with help from the manufacturer’s top instructors. Next, he is preparing to make a trip to the company’s factory in England to take courses, including one on engine rebuilding.
“Through this job, I have found a love for what I do,” said Hanlein. “None of it would be possible without my instructors at Somerset County Vocational and Technical Schools (SCVTS). Without the help of my automotive instructors, I would not have had the tools to become the technician I am today.”
Hanlein, a native of North Plainfield, studied in the Automotive and Light Duty Diesel Technology program at SCVTS. He graduated from the program in 2021, receiving an education that he says gave him the tools to succeed in the industry.
Hanlein said the instructors at SCVTS prepared him to be a hardworking technician with a hunger to continue developing his knowledge. That has driven him to pursue the opportunities Aston Martin has given him to further his knowledge and grow with the company. It also has given him confidence not only when he works on a vehicle but interacts with customers.
“During my time at SCVTS, I received the best education from teachers who were focused on my success and molding me into a career-ready individual straight out of school,” he said. “With the knowledge I gained, I was able to secure a job with a high-end automotive retailer that saw the potential in my knowledge and experience, while also knowing they could shape me into the high-quality technician they require.”
